How You Can Help

Every night, people in our community go to bed hungry because they struggle to find the money needed to cover all of their expenses. With the recent downturn in the economy, this problem is expected to grow.

During the Christmas season, generous donations of food and money from the public is made to SHARE Family and Community Services to stock the food banks. Regrettably, these donations do not cover the entire year’s worth of need.

This April we will do something to help.

SHARE along with ECCW Pro-Wrestling, Dave.ca Communications Inc. and a number of community leaders and organizations are partnering for the inaugural WRESTLING WITH HUNGER event. Twenty wrestlers will perform for three straight days - from April 2nd to 5th - to bring attention to the problem of hunger and to set the World Record for the longest wrestling show.

Hyde Creek Recreation Centre in Port Coquitlam, BC will be the site of this event. Through our media partners (print, radio and TV), schools, businesses, organizations and individuals will be encouraged to bring food and cash donations to the event site - and watch a little wrestling.

Then, from noon to 2pm on April 5th we encourage everyone to come to Hyde Creek (1379 Laurier Avenue), bring a can of food for SHARE and catch the last two hours of this World Record event.

We invite you to organize food drives at your school, business, church, neighbourhood etc. and let us know so we can share your story on the website. (you can download a small poster HERE).

Much of this event is being put together by volunteers. We are approaching businesses in the area to help offset the costs of the event by donating services or through sponsorship. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and will be recognized in a variety ways.
